Introduction

For browsing the web, I use Mozilla Firefox. I'm not going to go in to why users should switch from Microsoft IE to Firefox -- there are numerous sources of information online for that purpose.

I've created this page primarily for myself. I am constantly trying out new builds & extensions and often find myself having to uninstall and re-install every thing. Having all of my staple downloads locable from one central location is the natural next step.

The links on this page are not limited to Mozilla Firefox. Most of the links are applicable to both Firefox and the Moz application suite.

These resources are by no means intended to be all-inclusive. There's nothing exhaustive about it. It is simply a collection of my favorite Mozilla/FB related resources. So, please, no e-mail telling me I've left out this or that -- I left out far more than I've included. Please do, however, e-mail me if you are aware of something that might suit my tastes!

Toolbars | top

A9

Companion toolbar for the A9 search engine, which provides everything from web/image search results to history, reference (encyclopedia, dictionary), movie/artist info--a single search puts everything you could want to know about it at your fingertips.

Clusty

Toolbar for the Clusty search engine, an intelligent search by vivisimo that organizes search results into topical clusters. Draws its results from multiple search engines.

StumbleUpon Toolbar

This toolbar puts you one click away from a pseudo-random website tailored to your interests. Rating websites like/dislike improves the toolbar's understanding of your preferences. It's active in development and driven by a great [interactive] community.

Web Developer Toolbar

A highly competent collection of tools geared toward web designers. From quicklinks to W3C specs to highlighting and labelling block--level elements in the current page.

Extensions | top

Aardvark

This little extension when toggled on will highlight block level elements as you hover over them and also display class and id info as is available. Its keyboard controls allow you to increase and decrease the blocks, isolate items, colorize, view source and more. Every developer should have this in his extension library.

Adblock

This extension does a great job of cleaning up the internet--remove ads and other unwanted eyesores from websites quickly and easily.

Bookmark Backup

This extension will automatically backup your bookmarks (and any other data you want backed up). If something goes wrong, you need only copy the backed up files into a new profile and your settings are restored. This one has saved my ass many a time.

ColorZilla

Designed for web developers and graphic designers, this little gem is a color picker full of information. It has an "eye dropper" for grabbing a color from your browser window as well as a fully functional color picker and palette system. It even displays the DOM path to the element you're hovering over.

Cookie Culler

This cookie manager can automatically purge your cookies, keeping only those you have it protect.

Dictionary Search

Like the FireFTP

Download Sort

Allows you to configure different directories to auto-save different files in based on keywords and file extensions.

editCSS

A right click or ctrl+8 pops up a new window with the sites stylesheet(s). From there, you can edit (or clear it and start from scratch) the style and see it dynamically applied to the web page.

Firesomething

Albeit practically useless for all intents and purposes, this is probably my favorite extension. This extension Pokes fun at the ever-changing Phoenix/Firebird/Firefox name by changing your titlebar/UA string to a random element/animal combination. At the time of editing this text, I'm using Mozilla HotSlug.

Forecastfox

Displays the current and forecasted weather conditions tastefully in the browser UI -- highly customizable. My only complaint is that it supports weather.com exclusively.

Gmail Notifier

Puts a counter in your status bar that displays the number of new e-mails in your gmail inbox.

Hash Coloured Tabs

Not all websites have favicons defined. This extension adds a colored icon to these sites based on domain so tabs become effectively color coded. Especially handy for the tab power user.

Live HTTP Headers

View document http headers in real time.

mozedit

A text/code editor integrable into the browser. Can be used to edit in separate window, tab or sidebar.

Preferential

Take the drudgery out of editing the preferences hidden in about:config. This applies a more easily readable hierarchal display of the about:config items.

RSS Reader

Read RSS feeds in your side panel -- configuration is simple. Just select a bookmarks folder to be used by the reader, add your favorite feeds to it and keep your feeds at your finger tips while you surf.

Sage

Turns the sidebar into a simple yet effective feed reader.

Session Saver

Remembers what tabs/windows are open when you exit firefox, and restores them when you restart it.

SpellBound

A port of the Thunderbird spell checker that allows you to check your spelling in webform fields. Hand for those of us who aren't perfect.

Spurlbar

An unofficial extension designed to integrate the spurl.net online bookmark management service into the Firefox browser. It's a real godsend for spurl users.

Unhide Passwords

Nobody standing behind you, peeking over your shoulder? Then why struggle with hidden password fields? Tired of typos, forgotten CapsLocks, or just trying to figure out what the original password was? Turn those password fields into regular text fields, and forget about those hassles.

User Agent Switcher

Make your mozilla browser identify as IE, Opera, or any other user agent (even custom agents)--handy if you're being turned away from a site for not using IE.

Skins | top

AcidBurn

Currently under development. It's a shiny, sleek, elegant and simple. It aims to be a "fully skinned" theme.

Breeze

Until recently, this was the only alternative theme I'd consistently used. It's a simple aesthetic--a quiet, cool, smooth skin that gets the job done without distracting from the purpose of the web browser. It makes it easy to forget a browser is necessary to view the web.

Smoke ( and others )

Smoke was the first theme since Breeze to be kept on my system, this one is another simple, elegant composition. Makes good use of alpha-transparency, integrating nicely with your system colours. Also can be modified view a few quick, easy switches in the stylesheet. There are a number of other well assembled themes here by the same author.

Whitehart

A theme in the spirit of breeze--it's kept up to date, usually ready for the latest builds of Firefox. Since breeze is no longer maintained, this is a godsend.

Else | top

BLUEMARS

Three entrancing instrumental audio streams with a transcendental theme.

EditPad Pro

A powerful, highly-configurable text editor with syntax hi-lighting for most all formats and a powerful multi-line find/replace system that fully supports regular expressions. Available for Linux and Windows.
